LUNESIDE EAST

Luneside East is a 7ha brownfield site set on the historic St George's Quay next to the River Lune, and a short walk from the city centre.

Lancaster City Council is working to regenerate the site by facilitating its redevelopment as a mixed use new neighbourhood. The planned development is to include some 350 homes, together with 8,000 sq m of commercial space and leisure uses including cafes, bars and prospectively a hotel. The site should also include a 1 hectare public park. Befitting the location, this will be a highly sustainable development with a high quality of urban design and good walking and cycling routes.

The Council successfully completed a comprehensive site assembly early in 2008. This involved a compulsory purchase order and removal of an operational gasholder.

The next stage of the development involves remediation works and then development by the private sector. The Council’s appointed developer is Luneside East Ltd (LEL), a joint venture between CTP Ltd and Development Securities plc.
